Snow Guards Save Lives and Property

Snow guards are vital for home owners and property managers alike, especially when maintaining sloping roof tops in snow and ice conditions.

http://www.guttersupply.com/p-snowguards.gstml

There you are, minding your own business walking in to work when suddenly whoomp! A roof avalanche takes you out. Or worse yet, the same situation occurs, only you are the business owner, your employee happened directly beneath the falling ice, and now you are liable for the injuries befalling your employee. Falling snow and ice from sloped roof-tops can make dangerous situations both for people and their property in winter. But this can all be prevented with snow guards.

So, what is a snow guard?

A snow guard is a device, most likely made from metal or plastic, that protrudes from the roof. The purpose: to prevent accumulated snow and even ice from avalanching down off the roof and onto you, a guest, animals, your car, trees, or anything else valuable that can be damaged from the heavy snow and ice. It does this by slowly melting sections or at least controlling how much debris can fall at any given time. Amazingly, the guards can be matched to your roof so that they seem invisible!

Can I install snow guards myself?

Installing guards is best left to professional installers. The handyman or homeowner who tries to install a system may do so incorrectly, which potentially could cause more damage to the roof. If the pattern isn’t correct or if the attachment isn’t solid enough, it could increase possible damage to shingles, gutters, or other property. A licensed and practiced roofer can install the system for you since they have experience taking into account roofing type and thickness, slope of the roof, and even possible snow loads. This then determines the pattern, placement, and guard size or material.

Snow guard basics
Though you should talk to a professional installer, the basics of how the guards work is:
• Begin with high quality products that match the type of roof you have
• The guards should be placed as to hold snow and ice where it is, so several rows are necessary
• Have the roof pitch, roof dimensions, and selected snow guard (what color or decoration you are interested in) ready to give a professional installer
• The guards should be then placed in a staggered fashion across the roof

So, what kind of snow guards are there?

There are so many different types of guards to choose from to meet your needs. You can choose from material type, roof type, and even decor. The type of guard installed depends entirely on your roof, and your aesthetic choices. The following list is not comprehensive, but is just an example of what kinds of snow guards you will need based on your roof:

• Tile- Tile roofs require Pad-Style or Pipe-Style fittings
• Metal- Metal roofs will require Fence-style, Pad-Style, or Pipe-style fittings
• Solar Panels- Solar Panels require specific fittings meant just for solar arrays
• Shingle- Shingled roofs require Pad-Style or Pipe-Style

The different rain chains to choose from

Rain chains have become an increasingly popular alternative to the downspouts that help drain the water that flows from the rooftop into the gutters. The online store at GutterSupply.com offers a number of styles of rain chains that help provide a tranquil environment where you can rest on your porch or patio during those rainy days.
With 25 different rain chains available for purchase at 25 percent off, there are plenty of options to choose from. But before ordering, it would be good to review the different types and styles of rain chains offered by the folks at Gutter Supply.
Rain Chains

Rain chain styles

When it comes to choosing what kind of rain chains you will want for your home, there are a few styles to keep in mind. The first being the link style that will offer a number of types from twist loops, a variation where the loops are composed of wires that provide a path to create an interesting water effect, and Zen loops that provide a distinct honor to the chains’ Japanese heritage.

There are also more traditional looking link and circle loops that the water can run through on the way from the gutter and down to either the ground or a containing system that collects the water. GutterSupply.com also provides an exclusive infinity link design with unique curves. Double loops are also considered one of several designs that feature strong influence from the Asian cultures.

The second type of rain chain is the cup style that can take the heavier flow of water with a design that can send the water straight down into the corresponding cups that run down the chain – each with an open bottom. This style offers various types of cups that are designed like a number of shapes like the lotus flower, the copper bells and hummingbirds.

Gutter Supply also offers a classic arts and crafts style that provides cups that are more designed like trapezoids. The main thing that makes this a popular style is how the different cup styles will less likely splash water so that they can be placed anywhere without causing impact to other outdoor recreation.

Composition

There are a number of different compositions for the various rain chains, including metals, woods and even vinyl materials. Some cost more than others depending on the value of the material used to make the specific rain chains – some are finished or unfinished that provide some different looks and textures.
Aluminum – Among the various rain chains, Gutter Supply offers aluminum flared cups for about $77.95 regular price, as well as link chains and hand hammered aluminum dishes that are accompanied with corresponding hooks. These can range from about $35 to about $80.

Copper – A little more pricey with many options being listed for more than $150 for the copper bell cups that have reinforced folded lips and come with hand hammered accents.
Iron – Gutter Supply also offers iron flower cups for a rain chain that cost about $70 for an eight-and-a-half foot chain with a classically flared design that offers a hand finished cup. While it is a lot less expensive than copper, iron provides a little more durability for longevity.

Installation kits

While many Rain Chains are able to be connected to the openings in rain gutters that are usually designed for the more traditional downspout, Gutter Supply also offers easy installation rain chain kits that will help make sure you are able to have your rain chain connect with your pre-existing gutter systems.
The online retailer also offers copper and aluminum varieties that will come in three- and six-inch outlet lengths for the various aforementioned styles and compositions available at GutterSupply.com. The aluminum rain chain installation kit is a little less expensive at about $12 before the sale, with copper options ranging from $15 to $22 – depending on outlet length.

The company also offers a half-round installation kit that can also act as a reducer that is able to be placed into a gutter hole of about two and a quarter inches – this will allow the rain chain to hang from the bolt on the bottom of the kit so that the water will be led down to the chain.

Choosing a Gutter Supplier Over Big Box Products is a Smart Call

Have you been looking for a way to get a gutter ready in your home? Are you trying to add a half round gutter to your roof or another option with a unique design? If you take a look at what a gutter supplier can offer for your needs then you might find that you can get more out of your product when you ask for help.

In fact, a supplier may be a better entity to work with instead of a big box company. There are many reasons why a gutter supplier's products might be better for your use than what some massive corporation might have to offer.

What Gauge Do You Need ?

You might be amazed at the variety of gauge levels that you can choose from when finding different gutters for your home. The gauge refers to the thickness and strength of the unit in general.

You might want to measure the rain gutters that you want to use and then look for an option that is suitable for your home and the amount of rain that may come in your area. If you check on the right options for managing your home then you should have a fine option that is sensible for the needs you require.

How Long ?

You also have to see how long your units have to be. A direct supplier will be more apt to help you create half round gutters and other items that are measured to fit in your home. These gutters may be designed to fit in with a fine look if they are cut carefully.

Your home may be measured on each side to determine what you need to use. This will allow you to get the right kind of product that is measured to fit the exact specifications that you want to utilize at a given time.

Hangers are Important

You can get hangers to work on the body of your gutter system too. Suppliers can provide you with a variety of hangers based on the exact needs that you might have for making it work. Some hangers are stronger than others. There are also different hangers for the various sizes and styles of gutters.

Fewer Seams May Work

The problem with what so many big box companies have to offer is that they only offer 10 foot gutter sections. A system like this will create a lot of additional work seaming all of the different lengths together. A potential problem with this is the amount of seams this system creates. The more seams you have, the more opportunities for leaks to occur.

You can use fewer seams in a setup or even go with a seamless rain gutter design if you contact a supplier for your needs. A seamless gutter will feature a fine look that is nice and easy to manage and will not require as many costs as what you'd get elsewhere. The installation process for one of these seamless rain gutters will certainly be easier to manage as well.

If you contact a supplier of rain Gutters to help you out with your property then you should have an easier time with taking care of your Gutter setup. You should have an easier time with preparing your setup with care if you understand what you want to use.

Half Round Gutters vs. Other Gutters

Half Round GuttersWhen I was looking to install my new set of gutters, I was looking to find something that was going to give me everything that I needed out of my gutters. Because of that, I decided to look at and eventually purchase, half round gutters that I would be able to use all around the roof of my house. Why did I think that half round gutters were going to be the best choice for me? Here are a few random thoughts.
Half round gutters are actually very nice looking and you can mostly get them in any material that you want. Plastic, copper, PVC, all of them have half round gutters available and they’re easy to purchase and install on your home. If you want something simple, then you can get plastic or PVC; if you’re looking for something that is going to take on the wear and tear of the outdoors without a lot of trouble, then you may prefer copper. The half round look is very attractive, especially when used with the right materials.

Half round gutters are a lot easier than other types of gutters when it comes to preventing clogging.  This may sound odd but it’s true. You can purchase gutter guards that go right on top of the gutter, which means that less debris (leaves, sticks, etc) is going to be able to get in there in the first place. Or, if you decide that you don’t want to install gutter guards, you can clean them out a lot more easily. All you have to do is use a standard gutter cleaner and sweep through it. You don’t have to worry about getting stuck on areas as much as you would with standard gutters.

Half round gutters are less expensive than other types of gutters. You will want to compare prices across vendors and see exactly what is out there for you to choose from but usually they cost a little less to purchase and install. This is because they use less material than other gutters that are out there, and they’re a lot easier to install than some of the heavier, full gutters that you can get for your home as well. If saving money is on your list of requirements, then you will want to look at the half round Snow Guards that you can purchase for your home.

So, as you can see, I grabbed some half round gutters because the benefits were endless. I decided to buy copper half round gutters because I know that they’re the most versatile and can stand up to more of the rough weather that we get around here, and then I added some Gutter Guard so that I didn’t have to worry about leaves and other items getting caught in them, while at the same time ensuring that the water flow was going to be enough. I’m definitely glad that I went with half round gutters.

Choosing the Right Gutters

Gutters
If you’re looking to purchase gutters, then you’ve probably been trying to figure out how you should go about finding the right ones for your home. There are a lot of questions that need to be answered, and you want to make sure that you’ve got all of those questions answered before you get started with your search. So, what should you be looking for with your gutters? Here are a few hints that you can use in order to make sure that you’re getting the right gutters for your wants and needs.

-    Get gutters that are going to match your style of home. You of course, want to make sure that your gutters are aesthetically pleasing, especially when you’ve worked really hard on your home. There are so many types of gutters out there that it’s not in the least bit difficult to find the right ones for your specific design. On top of that, you can get them in different colors as well. Look around a bit and try to find something that’s going to be easy on the eyes when you look at your house.

-    Try to find gutters that are going to fit your home without a lot of modification. There are a lot of gutters out there, but not every gutter is going to fit on your home’s current set up. Every roof is different, and every edge is different, so you want to make sure that you’ve got gutters that are going to fit properly. Take some measurements ahead of time to make sure that you’re getting ones that are in the right range andif you can, look for sample pieces that you can use to see whether or not they will actually fit properly.

-    Find gutters that are made out of material that is going to last for the long term. Materials vary, and there are a lot of them out there. Copper and vinyl are known to last a long time, but there are also various types of plastic and other materials that you can get them in as well. Of course, this may vary based on what colors you’re looking for, but you can usually find a material and color combination that will fit what you need without having to really worry about getting items modified. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, consider getting them custom made.

-    Pick out a set of gutters that will make it easy for you to make repairs as needed, even if they are located in an awkward area of your home. Sometimes, the gutters around your home are going to be in weird places that are hard to get to. Some materials are harder to repair than others. You will want to keep both of those pieces of information in your mind when you’re making a purchase. Most of the time, you’re going to want to try and take care of those repairs on your own, so make sure that it’s as simple as possible for you to do so.

-    Look for gutters that are going to fit into the budget that you’ve set for yourself. Budgets are, of course, at the core of any sort of home design. That being said, there are a lot of gutters out there, and they fit all sorts of different budgets. Make sure that you set a budget ahead of time and then stay within that budget as best as you can. It needs to be a reasonable budget – not too low, and not so high that you’re going to end up going into debt when you replace your gutters.

So as you can see, there are a lot of different things that you’re going to have to think about when you’re trying to choose the right gutter. If you still aren’t sure, and you need some help, take a look at everything that we have available for you. Have you gone shopping for gutter guards recently? You might be impressed at the vast variety of different kinds of gutter guards that you can get these days. There are a number of guards to choose from with each having its own series of features that make it worthwhile. Here's a few good gutter guards worth trying. These are great options that work in many forms to protect all sorts of properties.

A filter can be made with a multi-polymer material and will even have a UV stabilizer to keep the material protected from the sun's rays. This is typically installed with brackets that go over the overall body of the gutters to make it fit in right.

Gutter

 Gutter Screens

Gutter screens are some of the more interesting types of leaf guards to find. These are made with thick materials that fit directly over most types of gutters like K-style, half round, and copper gutters. These gutter screens are typically made with materials that match up with whatever the original gutters were made out of.

Leaf Out

The Leaf Out option is a leaf guard that is made with a thicker body and a firm Aluma Flow Louver System that keeps large leaves and other bits of debris from falling into your gutters. This is designed to allow the system to stay active.

Snow Guards

Gutter Solution

The next choice for a gutter screen is the Gutter Solution. This is installed right onto the fascia board and is typically used for homes that have tile, metal or flat roofs. This is made to take in water and allow it to flow with care without risking a great deal of flooding in a space. The design will help to move the materials in a space so it will all fit in right in any section.

Gutter Shingle

Gutter Shingle was designed to be used with a low profile appearance. This has a solid cover and a traditional design mixed together with a fine mesh guard. This is all added with a heavy gauge steel material to make it sturdy and ready to be used in more spaces.

Don't Forget the Accessories

You can get many other good materials to go with these gutter covers or Snow Guards. You can get splash blocks that will help to move water away from your foundation or wire strainers that can go in outlet openings to keep leaves and other items from clogging the gutter. All of these items are ideal for homes that want to find some good materials used to keep their gutters safe. A Few Points for Contractors to See If You Want to Sell Gutter Guards

Gutter guards can be convenient but you need to take a careful look at what you want to do if you're a contractor. There are many big aspects of such guards that must be reviewed with care so you will have a model that is appropriate and sensible for the plans you might have. These are especially important to see if you plan on selling these guards to others as a contractor.

What is the Cost?

The cost of gutter screens can vary based on the model you want to use. A typical cost to get about 200 feet of gutter covers installed can be at least $1,000 but it could also be $2,500 depending on the type of the guard and the size and style of gutter you are working with. It will cost more to get copper leaf guards onto copper gutters, for instance.

Gutter

How Can It Be Installed?

You have to focus on how well you can install a gutter guard as well. A guard can be installed by attaching the gutter guard to the lip of a traditional gutter system or they can sometimes go under the roof shingles. Sometimes gutter screens have to be added over existing gutters in a manner that is similar to what you would have to do when getting traditional gutters out of the way.

How Effective is a Solution?

The effectiveness of gutter covers will certainly vary based on such points as whether or not a gutter will have a thick shield or filter to collect debris and if the gutter has been affixed to a setup with care. In addition, many leaf guards may be effective based on whether they are appropriately aligned with the rest of a gutter. An installer will have to review the overall design of a guard to figure out what can be done to make the setup more effective.

Maintenance Plans May Work

It helps to see if a particular maintenance plan can be used with care. A contractor can go along with a maintenance plan where a client will receive support for the leaf guard through cleanings that occur biannually. These are used to examine how well the gutters are being protected and if the guards are all in their right places as needed. The purpose of the process is to see that the gutters are being managed with more than enough care.

A Warranty May Be Added

It may also be sensible to see how a warranty may be added to a property. A good warranty may cover such aspects as damages to the shields and any changes to the bodies of the shields to where items may have to be replaced as needed. A warranty can last for several years to ensure that the gutter will not clog.

Contractors who are to work with snow guards can use them to their advantage to make it easier for any kind of gutter shield to be added to a home. The advantages that come with using gutter covers are so impressive that these can practically sell themselves when all is said and done.

Rain Gutters are very important for a home to drain away the rainwater. It provides many benefits like it protect walls and adds value of your home as well.

Rain can have a very damaging effect on the walls of your home if the water is not drained out properly. That is why every house ought to have a guttering system so that the water can be taken away from the important parts of the house like the walls or the attic and be safely flowed off to a nearby location. This is the first and most important aspect of having an effective gutter system installed around your home. There are many other benefits of having a gutter system that can drain away rainwater and keep your walls from being exposed in the rains. Let's have a look at these benefits:

Snow Guard

• Protects Walls and Foundations
As stated before, gutters protect you walls from damage from the elements. They can be very useful for maintaining solid walls and foundations for many years. Seamless gutters, in particular, ensure that there is no leakage inside your walls that could discolor it from the outside and dampen the walls from the inside.

• Adds to Home Value
A good guttering system adds to the value of the house as it protects it from damage from rains. This is particularly true for areas which receive substantial amounts of rainfall. Depending upon the material of the gutter system, the property value can rise considerably. For example, homes with copper gutter systems can have a minty look which is very attractive and adds to the value of the property. It also looks good even without the value consideration.

Most professionals nowadays recommend seamless gutter systems as they leave no space for leakages and transport all the water poured onto your home to the ground without letting it reach your walls and your foundation. There are four main types of materials used for installing gutters around houses – vinyl, steel, aluminum and copper. Out of these, copper is the best and lasts the longest. But it is also the most expensive and it's often targeted by thieves for its easy and high resale value. Seamless copper gutter systems are the best and really add to the value of a house.

The next in line are aluminum gutters. They also come in both segmented and seamless forms and are the pick for most people for their enhanced protection and low cost of maintenance. The installation of seamless gutters needs to be done by professionals but the segmented ones can also be done by the people themselves. The third in line are steel gutters. These are the most durable but also have a high cost of maintenance, so they are not as much preferred by people as aluminum gutters. Finally, we have vinyl gutters, which are best for those who want to do it themselves. These are also the least expensive of all the materials used in making gutters and provide decent protection against the rains.

Having a rain gutter is very important as it both protects and adds value to your home, so get one as soon as you can and protect you house from damage from the elements.

Clear the Machine of Debris

It is easy for dirt, dust and other kinds of debris to get in the way of a seamless gutter machine. Be sure to open the components of your gutter machine every once in a while to clear out any foreign objects that might be stuck in its body. If you can keep these items out of the way then you will have a machine that will continue to work for years to come.

In addition, having a clear gutter roll forming machine will keep you from being likely to get more foreign objects in the way of the unit as it tries to run. A clear machine will also create the best gutters as needed without having to repeat any processes for making it work.

Lubricate All Items

The next part of maintaining rain gutter machines is to make sure you lubricate each unit you have with care. You have to lubricate items with a good motor oil that is suitable for use within your machine. If you lubricate items with motor oil then the setup will work consistently.

You must lubricate many parts in a seamless gutter machine including sprockets, roller chains, blades, guide-cranks and pressure adjusting items. Every piece in a gutter roll forming machine must be treated to make it work with care.

Be sure to check the manual for your specific rain gutter machine to see what you have to use. The standards for managing a machine will vary by each model. You might need to get a different type of lubricant depending on what you want to use.

Rub Out Surface Marks

Be sure to look for any surface marks on a rain gutter machine. Use an emery cloth to rub out items on a rolling surface to keep it clear.

Clear Out Dirty on Rollers

Dirt and other compounds can get on the rollers on any seamless gutter machine. You will have to use a mineral spirit solvent to remove grease and paint from a roller among other items. It is especially best to use a cleaning material if you plan on switching your gutter machine from one metal to another. This is especially the case when going from a galvanized material to a non-galvanized option.

You should be certain when using gutter roll forming machines that you take care of them the right way. If you don't maintain your machine with care then you might be at risk of experiencing damages in your particular unit. Be sure to fix up your machine on occasion to ensure that it will not wear out.

Maintenance plans for your gutter machine should entail rubbing out stains and marks and clearing out debris. Keep everything clean and lubricated is critical to the process of getting a unit to work as needed.

GutterSupply.com: FAQs All About Snow Guards

Depending on where you live, it may snow a lot during the winter months. Not only that, it might snow enough to cover your entire roof!

Even though the thought sounds humorous, it's not when you think about the potential danger snow poses to a relatively resilient roofing system. Snow, when it's accumulated like that, melts and gets heavy and bears down on the roof and its foundation. Accumulated snow also poses a danger to people, property and even plants and animals if shelves of packed snow slide down from the roof.

In order to prevent something like that from occurring, it's imperative to install what's known as a snow guard. Snow guards are a type of device used to hold snow and ice, keeping shelves of either from sliding down and falling onto people, property or plants and animals.

Gutter

These devices are installed in multiple rows along a roof top, mainly to prevent snow and ice shelves from sliding down along the length of the roof. But, in most cases, buildings get snow guards installed in accordance with their own unique characteristics.

Many people may have questions about snow guards that are still relatively unanswered. Well, in this article, we're going to take some time to review frequently asked questions about snow guards.

Frequently Asked Questions ~ Snow Guards

Snow guards are a necessity in areas with snowy winters. They prevent snow and ice shelves from falling onto objects, people and animals below the roof. But, there are other reasons why snow guards are used on roofing systems.

Why do people need snow guards for their roofs?

There are plenty of reasons why buildings and homes need snow guards:

They prevent gutter damage from sliding and/or falling snow and ice shelves.
They prevent snow and ice from damaging the exterior part of a plumbing system.
They help prevent piles of snow and ice from piling on entrance steps and other platforms around a building.
They prevent damage to lower sloped roofs or lower roofs, such as those attached to a building with a   higher roof.
They prevent damage to landscaping or other utilities systems placed around a building or home.

All in all, snow guards help prevent the prospect of property damage, human injury and, though rarely, harm to passing animals from taking place.

Can you tell me what materials are used to create snow guards?

Snow guards are made from many materials, though the most notable are plastic and metal. Plastic snow guards are made from a type of reinforced polycarbonate that's UV stabilized and essentially weatherproof.

Plastic snow guards came into popularity in the late 1970s after the first proprietary plastic snow guards hit the market. Plastic eventually became the preferred material of choice after people realized metal wasn't as resilient as it appeared in colder weather. Metal is known to become brittle, prone to breakage and significantly erode over time when continually exposed to colder conditions.

Plastic, besides resisting the characteristic erosion and brittleness of metal, can also be altered to match the appearance of the roofing system itself. Clear snow guards are often used to blend in the roof, the snow and the sky. Snow guards can also be colored to match the appearance of the roof.

What's the most important aspect of a snow guard system? Does the dimension, shape and/or mounting method matter?

The shape, dimension and the mounting method of snow guard systems do matter—let's learn why.

To start, snow guards need to fit the roof where they're installed. It's not really a good idea to install snow guards that don't fit the roof at all. In fact, they might cause more trouble than they need to.

The shape and height of a snow guard's face determines how much snow it'll be able to hold; it also determines whether it'll be effective at holding all of that snow and ice.

Also, the snow guard system typically needs to be mounted on the lowest portion of a roofing panel. That's because snow and ice shelves often slide downward; placing the guards there ensures that those particular shelves will be caught before they tumble to the ground.

But, you're best off talking to a professional about the best way to go about getting your snow guard system installed.
